Laura Nobili

Laura Nobili (b. 2006) is an award-winning Canadian composer who is currently studying at Manhattan School of Music under the mentorship of Dr. J. Mark Stambaugh. Born in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Nobili began composition at the age of 12, and received her first commission from  celebrated pianist and composer, Boyd McDonald and the Springdale Trio. Her compositions cover a wide range of instrumentations and styles including opera, choral works, chamber music, orchestral pieces, and recently she has been exploring jazz. At the age of 14, Nobili was commissioned to write for renowned soloist Jonathan Crow, and her music continues to be performed regularly by numerous professional and student musicians. Her work has received world-premieres in Canada, the United States, Italy, and Austria, including two original full-length musicals which she composed, produced, and directed at the age of 16. She has also attended the Opera Lucca Composers Institute studying under Dr. Raphael Fusco, and the Sounds of Now Vienna Festival where she workshopped her music with Victor Báez, Adrián Artacho, Daniel Oliver Moser, Dai Fujikura, and Lukas Ligeti. Nobili has conducted several of her own pieces for choir, symphonic band, and orchestra. In addition to her composition endeavors, Nobili is on the Student Advisory Board at the Metropolitan Opera, and she is one of the founders of the Manhattan School of Music Opera Club.
